INNER TORAH LEARNING WORKSHOP

The first Inner Torah Learning Workshop will begin IY”H on Rosh Hodesh Cheshvan and continue through כה Sivan (October 19, 2009 – June 7, 2010) with appropriate breaks for the Chaggim.

At the request of readers of the Inner Torah books, Miriam Millhauser Castle is starting a group program for those who want to learn Inner Torah skills in-depth. These are skills that are useful for life. Any woman who wants to know and grow herself, to heal old wounds, to come into deeper, more authentic relationship with herself, others, and Hashem, to experience more ease and joy, to be a better wife and mother will benefit.

After many years of working with women one-on-one, Miriam will now be offering Inner Torah in this new format that allows women to learn together even as each works on her own personal Inner Torah. Two options for participating are available. One is an in-person group that will meet on Mondays from 10:00 – 11:45 a.m. in Jerusalem. The other is a teleconference group that will also meet weekly on Mondays, at a time convenient to its primarily overseas participants, most likely
7:00 — 8:30 p.m. or 7:30 — 9:00 p.m. Israel time.

The course will be based on the Inner Torah books, Inner Torah: Where Consciousness and Kedushah Meet, Practical Inner Torah: A Guide to Going Within, and The Breath and Body of Inner Torah.

The Breath and Body of Inner Torah

ט"ז אייר תשס"ט - May 9, 2009

Too many of us go through life disconnected from our bodies, aware of our thoughts but little else.  We forget that the body is home to the soul.  We forget even to breathe and partake of the full quotient of life force that our breath holds for us.  And then we wonder, why we feel less vital, less alive, less real to ourselves than we once did.

The latest book in the Inner Torah series, The Breath and Body of Inner Torah, is an invitation to reclaim our bodily homes.  It blends Torah teachings, real-life stories and physical explorations, to take readers into the very cells of their beings to discover their true potential.   It shows how the deeper we can reach within, the further we can reach without.  How, from inside ourselves, we can navigate the challenges of our lives with unimaginable ease and serenity.

The Breath and Body of Inner Torah is a book you can work with on your own or with others.   Intended for use as a companion volume to Inner Torah and Practical Inner Torah, it takes you on a fascinating journey into the body to reach the soul — the precious and holy spark of the Infinite that lies within us all.

The Breath and Body of Inner Torah is scheduled for release in June 2009.  Look for it at your local Jewish bookstore and online at www.Targum.com and www.Amazon.com.

Hearing Two Voices

י"ט אלול תשס"ח - September 18, 2008

Walking Mom Home is a book that my mother (a”h) and I conceived together when she was dying of esophageal cancer and I was taking care of her.  Our experiences during that time were so profound, so enlivening and so heart-stretching that we wanted to share them with others who would one day walk the same road after us.  As it turned out, my mother died before the book could be written.    So the task of completing the project fell to me.

As originally conceived, the book would have been written in two distinct voices and from two perspectives.  But because I was left to write it alone, it was up to me to convey both of our realities.   Needing to stand both in my mother’s shoes and my own in writing this book helped me to appreciate our two worlds even more and, I think, to understand them even better than I might have otherwise.

Having had this experience, I wondered whether it might be helpful in life for mothers and daughters to try sometimes to tell the story of whatever is happening between them from the other’s perspective as well as their own.  It could be an interesting and eye-opening exercise – one that could change lives and relationships long before the final journey.
